When thinking about the cover of our StaffelNews 02 / 2022 issue, we decided to link the topic to the upcoming holidays. There were several creative ideas, which we narrowed down to this image.
Augmented reality - 3D modeling and rendering
After I have created a sketch, I make a 3D model or try to find one online. To do this, I arrange my scene in a 3D program and set up the camera angle and the basic lighting. In half an hour I already have a first rendering draft that I can share with my team. We discuss the layout of the gift boxes, the camera angle and the mood we want to create in the scene. We do this in real time on a large screen in the office or via Zoom call.
The entire team can see the results immediately, discuss the design, discuss adjustments and finally decide on a variant. We go through different looks with multiple color options, gifts wrapped in different colored paper and different lighting configurations.
Create 3D model and draft design
After we have made the final decision, I create a high-resolution image that we can use for print production. This file can also be adapted for other applications, such as social media content or websites.
From this point on, we discuss further interesting marketing ideas as a team. We decide to use a short video for our social media as well as AR to encourage interaction with readers. All this can be done in just a few hours.
From the real world to the virtual world
Milgram’s definition (Milgram & Kishino, 1994) is often used here. This is not entirely undisputed, as there is a view that even glasses with a filter change reality. The terms are therefore explained here in colloquial terms.
The real world of the reality-virtuality continuum describes the here and now. The reality in which we live, in which the laws of physics apply. 360° videos, which represent a digital image of this real world, can be classified here.
The digital 3D objects are mixed with the real world. We can interact with them and see them through our devices (phones, tablets) or AR glasses.
Here we immerse ourselves 100% in the 3D world and interact with it. Everything that exists in it is created digitally for us.
The virtual world is a world that consists exclusively of virtual objects. Objects that do not physically exist but are present in terms of their functionality or effect. An example of this is “Matrix”, in which the entire environment is generated by the computer.
Test augmented reality for yourself
We have a little game for you on the following AR page, which you can access via the QR code or the link, you can see the 3D scene that we have created for you. Somewhere in the scene we have hidden a little “present” for you. If your phone or tablet has access to AR content, you can move the scene around your immediate surroundings and search for the “gift”.Were you successful in your search?
Congratulations!
Would you like to immerse your customers in a virtual world? We will be happy to help you with the implementation.
